Basic Guitar Chords

HELLOO !!

Future Rockstars ,,...I am glad that you got influenced by some rockstar musician or any rock-band or just a guy with a guitar, and did what it takes and bought your own “6 STRINGS”.

First thing we do after we buy a guitar is that we strum, play with it, whatever.. and that is in deed the first step you should learn about guitar. Free your hand a little on guitar, before you start some serious practice on it..

I guess..hmm.. you did that much. Then I think its time for you to learn some chords. You know when I started playing guitar .. no one told me this, that playing the chord is not that hard, once you see the positions you can place your finger properly and that's it, but the real hard part according to me is to switch between the chords according to the flow of songs. 

Now .. I know you can finds zillions of other sites better than this blog that shows you guitar chords, I may be just one of them .. But dude !! .. there are zillions of other guitar player too and still you wanna learn and be one of them so.....I guess we are even..

Initially I would suggest you to play these basic chords and also try to switch between them. You can start up with easy switching like from Am to Em.. or a little harder like from C to G, A to D, etc. etc..

Now when you start playing chords , it would be tougher for you as your fingers will pain a little and I know that you will Google any finger caps and stuff,but don't worry its common, and you will get use to it.. And trust me, once you get over that first stage, there is nothing better then playing Guitar with your own fingers.

You know one thing I would suggest that learn 2-3 simple strumming patterns with all the strings open, first, then try and play the same pattern of strum with chords. Like if you practiced a pattern 'Up-Down Up-Down Up-Up-Down' with open strings, so put your fingers in A chord position, then try strumming the same.


Also when you try and strum a chord, see to it that all strings sounds clear, (After placing fingers according to chord, Play them one by one and check) if not, then place your top part of the finger and press it hard, like a nail in the wall, check your fingers are not touching two strings at time or something.. check it and place your finger properly.

Now before we start with the chords .. I assume you know which kinda guitar you have,I mean, I know Chords are not relevant to which guitar you have, but still I think its good to know about your guitar a little bit , like is it acoustic , electric, electro-acoustic..etc. etc

Also before you play, I suggest you should check that your guitar is tuned to the standard settings as follows:

6^th string - The thickest or the lower sounding string is tuned to E. 

5^th string - Second string from above is tuned to A.

4^th string - Is tuned to D.                                     

3^rd string - Is tuned to G.

2^nd string - Is tuned to B.

1^st string - The thinnest or highest frequency string is again tuned to E.

(And yeah use a tuner for exact tuning)

FYI:  6^th 5^th 4^th These three strings are also referred to as base strings and 3rd  2^nd and 1^st strings are referred to as lead strings.

BASIC CHORD CHART WITH FINGER NUMBERS:

1 on the diagram shows the index finger, 2 shows middle finger, 3 shows ring finger and 4 is the Pinky (tiny) finger, 
Now enough said.. let play Guitar...!!

O - Play Open String

X - Don't play the string

All 1 in a row shows that its a bar chord, that means you have to cover all  6 six strings with your 1st finger. 

FYI: Also there are two general ways of Playing B / B major and G / G major. When you playing a Bar chord , first B / B major is easy to switch, similarly while Playing open chords I find last G / G major is easy to switch. you can try the same , whichever helps !!
